Did you know that a Hamburg native forever watches over the battlefield at Gettysburg near the “high watermark” of Pickett’s infamous charge? Private Joseph Lindermuth was a member of the 1st PA Volunteer Cavalry, a unit held in reserve, ready to counterattack if the Confederates broke through the Union line. Private Lindermuth, fully equipped and on one knee, posed as the model for his unit’s memorial, located on Hancock Avenue, near the “Angle.” He is buried in Auburn.
